WormWormwood Tea Benefits:

-Digestive Health: Wormwood tea has traditionally been used to stimulate digestion and relieve digestive issues such as indigestion, bloating, and flatulence. It may help increase the production of digestive enzymes and improve the overall functioning of the digestive system.

-Appetite Stimulation: Wormwood tea is believed to have appetite-stimulating properties, making it useful for individuals with a poor appetite. It may help promote hunger and improve the desire to eat.

-Gallbladder and Liver Support: Wormwood tea has been used as a natural remedy to support the health of the gallbladder and liver. It may help stimulate the production and flow of bile, which aids in the digestion and absorption of fats.

-Antimicrobial Properties: Wormwood contains compounds with potential antimicrobial properties, including against certain bacteria and parasites. It has been traditionally used to help combat intestinal worms and other gastrointestinal infections. However, it's important to note that proper medical treatment is crucial for serious infections, and wormwood tea should not be relied upon as the sole treatment.

-Menstrual and Menopausal Support: Wormwood tea is sometimes used to alleviate menstrual pain and discomfort. It may help regulate menstrual cycles and relieve symptoms associated with menopause, such as hot flashes and mood swings. However, further scientific research is needed to validate these effects.

-Anti-inflammatory Effects: Some studies suggest that wormwood may possess anti-inflammatory properties. This could potentially be beneficial for conditions characterized by inflammation, although more research is required to fully understand its effects.

How to make Wormwood Tea

Ingredients:

  • 1-2 teaspoons of dried wormwood leaves and flowers (per cup of tea)
  • Water - 1 cup per serving
  • Optional: Honey or sweetener of your choice (to mitigate bitterness)

Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Wormwood:

    • Measure 1-2 teaspoons of dried wormwood leaves and flowers for each cup of tea you plan to make. Ensure that the wormwood is clean and free from any debris.
  2. Boil Water:

    • In a saucepan or kettle, bring 1 cup of water to a boil for each serving of tea.
  3. Add Wormwood:

    • Once the water is boiling, add the dried wormwood leaves and flowers to the hot water.
  4. Simmer:

    • Reduce the heat to low, cover the saucepan with a lid, and let the wormwood steep in the hot water for about 5-10 minutes. This allows the flavors to infuse into the water.
  5. Strain the Tea:

    • After simmering, turn off the heat and strain the tea to remove the wormwood leaves and flowers. You can use a fine mesh strainer or a tea infuser for this purpose.
  6. Sweeten (Optional):

    • Wormwood tea is quite bitter, so you may want to add a sweetener like honey to mitigate the bitterness. Adjust the amount of sweetener to your taste.
  7. Serve:

    • Pour the wormwood tea into a cup or mug and serve it hot.

Questions & Answers

1) What is wormwood used for?
-To detox the liver... very cleansing herb.

2) Is this the same as mugwort?
-There is some disagreement about the difference between mugwort and wormwood. Herbs have many different common names, which can cause confusion. By looking at the scientific name, it’s easy to identify when there are differences in the plants.

The scientific name for wormwood is Artemisia absinthium. Mugwort’s scientific name, however, is Artemisia vulgaris.

Although the two plants are closely related, there is a slight difference. Mugwort refers to all 200 aromatic plants found in the Artemisia genus; wormwood is just one of them. Wormwood (Artemisia absinthium) is the only variation of Artemisia that can be used to distill authentic absinthe. It is also commonly used to make vermouth.
